BFA Thesis - Of The Lakes
In my BFA thesis, "Of The Lakes," I embark on a journey of rediscovery, exploring my Salish ancestry through the language of art. This body of work is both a personal and creative exploration, bridging the gap between generations and reconnecting with a culture that I never got to experience.
Inspired by the art forms, motifs, and cultural practices of the Salish peoples, I delve into the stories and symbols that echo through my heritage. Through this process, I aim to honor my ancestors while creating a contemporary dialogue that reflects my own identity. My work seeks to balance reverence for traditional art forms with my perspective as a modern artist, fostering a deeper understanding of my roots and their connection to the world around me.
This exploration is not just about finding a cultural lineage—it is about reclaiming a sense of belonging, identity, and memory that informs both my artistic practice and my personal journey. Through "Of The Lakes," I invite others to reflect on their own connections to place, heritage, and the enduring power of art to carry stories forward.
