stmkʔilt (The Daughter) is a mixed media piece (watercolor, chine collé, ink illustration) that explores my identity and reflects on the imagination of childhood and reconnecting with my roots, literally and metaphorically. My roots, my childhood experiences, shape who I am today. Salish cultural icons tell the story of the influences in my life. The sun provides guidance and protection. The hummingbird is a metaphor for looking back, seeing how I have changed. The ravens reflect on the complexities of life and the unknowns of the future.
